Getting Started with Bloomberg

Provides an overview of how to use Bloomberg at SMU

What it is

Bloomberg Professional provides real-time and historical financial market & economic data, with international coverage of all sectors. Use it to find company financials, stock market indices, news, analyst reports, and much more. 

The Business Library offers a 1-hour Bloomberg Basics workshop that provides an overview of Bloomberg and how to use it. 

Where to access Bloomberg

Business Library (150 Maguire)

Bloomberg terminals:

  • Open to any current SMU student, faculty and staff with a valid SMU ID.
  • Check out a placard at the Front Desk. 
  • Locations
    • Kitt Investing and Trading Center - 10 terminals 
    • Main area of Business Library - 4 terminals
    • Bloomberg laptop - available for faculty to check out for classes

Log into Bloomberg using a Business Library account (located on the back of the placard).

Creating an Account

Create your own Bloomberg login (recommended for repeat users):

 

1.Select the Create New Login option below the username and password fields.

 

2. Follow the instructions to set up the account. 

Your work and mobile numbers can be the same. Use your SMU email address in the Corporate Email Address Field.

 

3. Keep your cell phone close. Enter a confirmation number - receive this by text message or phone call. 

Customize your account and use this to login on future visits.
